Course Offerings
Introduction to Applied Science - Basic study of plants and animals and their functions, interactions and importance to man. Students will be introduced to FFA, SOEP and careers in Agriculture. Meets UC/CSU elective requirement and the Life Science graduation requirement.
Agricultural Biology - Laboratory course covering molecular, cellular, chemical and structural aspects of life, growth, reproduction, genetics and evolution in plants and animals, taxonomy of plants, animals and humans. Meets Life Science graduation requirement. Anatomy and Physiology of Animals and Plants - Covers the areas of scientific method, classification system, mammalian production, production management, anatomy, physiology, reproduction, nutrition, mitosis, meiosis, respiration and genetics. Meets Life Science graduation requirement and/or district 3rd year science requirement and university elective requirement.
Advanced Applied General Science- Includes advanced earth science, chemistry, forces, work, energy, waves, alternative energy sources and nuclear energy as it pertains to agriculture. Meets UC/CSU elective requirement and the Physical Science graduation requirement.
Economics in Agriculture- Basic principles of all economic systems with special emphasis on the areas of individual student decision making and the world economy as it relates to agriculture. Meets economics graduation requirement and UC/CSU elective requirement.
Available Agricultural Academy Electives
Design and Implementation - Sculpture in wood, and metal with emphasis on creativity, design, and project implementation. Meets visual and performing arts graduation requirement, UC/CSU elective requirement & CSU fine arts requirement.
Floral Design - Students will study principles related to floral and artistic design and acquire skills and knowledge in the history, theory and application used in floral design. Meets visual & performing arts graduation requirement.
Fabrication with Wood/Metal - Practical experience in arc and oxyacetylene welding, identification of tools and equipment as well as building projects with wood and metal.
ROP Welding - The opportunities for welders are unlimited. The course is articulated with the introductory certified welding course at Cosumnes River College. The purpose of this course prepares students for an entry level welding career.
