FFA makes a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth, and career success through agricultural education.

American FFA Degrees
To be eligible for the American Degree a student must have first received the State FFA Degree.  The student must have been an active member for the past three years and have a record of satisfactory participation in FFA activities on the chapter and state levels.  The student must have satisfactorily completed the equivalent of at least three years of systematic secondary school instruction in an agricultural education program or have completed the program of agricultural education offered in the school last attended.  The student must have graduated from high school at least 12 months prior to the National convention at which the degree is to granted.  The student must have in operation an outstanding supervised agricultural experience program through which a mmber has exhibited comprehensive planning, managerial and financial expertise and have maintained records to substantiate the SAEP.  The student must have earned $7,500 and worked 2,250 hours.  The student must have a record of outstanding leadership abilities and community involvement and have achieved a high school scholastic record of C or better as certified by the principal or superintendent.

There are numerous American Farmers from our Chapter.  This is the highest degree that any Future Farmer can receive.

 

Delbert Olson

1934

Received his degree with an outstanding registered Jersey herd.

 

Charles Gage

1939

Charles was a dairyman in the registered Ayrshire breed.  He is now retired from Elk Grove Unified School District Transportation Department.

 

George Morse

1943

George was a very successful farmer.  He now lives in Valley High.

 

Seth Hoyt

1969

Seth received his degree while in the registered Shorthorn business.  He now works in in the Agriculture Service field.

 

Hugh Mooney

1979

Hugh is in the registered Shorthorn business, currently maintaining his Shorthorn herd while teaching Vocational Agriculture.  He is a graduate of Chico State University, and is currently teaching Ag. Science at Galt High School.

 

Joyce Van Warmerdam

1979

Joyce received her degree for two reasons:  (1) her excellent dairy project and (2) a high degree of activity in the F.F.A. on the local, regional, state and national level. 

 

Ken Oneto

1981

Ken won his award because of his proficiency in crops, Ag. Mechanics and Ag. Electrification.  He is currently employed in a farming operation with Oneto Brothers.  Ken is a graduate of Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo.

 

Randy Barnes

1982

Randy is in the registered Suffolk and Rambouillet sheep business.  He is also a qualified auctioneer.  Randy is a graduate of Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, where he majored in Ag. Business.

 

Bruce Blodgett

1982

Bruce received his degree because of an excellent flock of registered Suffolk sheep and a Work Experience project in the family Christmas Tree Farm.  Bruce is a graduate of CSU Fresno where he obtained his masters degree in Ag. Business.

 
Mike Harry
1982

Mike is in the registered Hereford cattle business.  His award was based on his Hereford cattle and his fine record of activities in the F.F.A.  Mike is presently employed in the cattle business, and is a graduate of the University of California at Davis.

 
Mike Albiani
1983

Mike received his degree for his very active participation in F.F.A. at the local, regional and state levels, as well as an excellent registered Shorthorn breeding project.  Mike is currently a Vocational Agriculture Instructor.  He is a graduate of Fresno State University.

 
Randy Weaver
1983

Randy received his degree for his excellent registered Duroc breeding project, as well as outside work experience.  He is a graduate of CSU Fresno.

 
Jennifer Albiani
1984

Jennifer earned her degree through her active participation in numerous F.F.A. activities, as well as her extremely successful Shorthorn breeding cattle project.  She is a graduate of CSU Fresno where she majored in Agricultural Education.

 
Sean Tollenar
1984

Sean attained his degree through his outstanding level of achievement in all phases of the F.F.A.  In addition to this achievement, he built an excellent Dairy Project.  Sean received the 1983 Star State Farmer Award, and he is a graduate in Dairy Science from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo.

 
Dave Nicholas
1985

Dave secured his American Farmer Degree by always striving for a high level of achievement in the F.F.A.  He was extremely active in F.F.A. leadership activities and he developed an excellent registered Suffolk sheep project.  Other endeavors include a Sheep Shearing and Fitting Service, which served as his Work Experience project.  Dave is a graduate of Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo.

 
Tim Albiani
1986

Tim received his American Farmer Degree because of his widespread F.F.A. participation and quality registered Shorthorn project.  His F.F.A. experiences include Chapter and Sectional officer, Regional Beef Proficiency Winner, four gold's in Project Competition and runner up in the Regional Extemporaneous Speech Contest.  Tim's leadership experiences and project development make him a strong American Farmer.  He is a graduate of the University of California, Davis.

 
Jon Tollenaar
1986

Jon fulfulled his degree requirements through a high level of F.F.A. activities.  Not only did he hold the chapter presidency two consecturive years, but he also served as Sacramento Section President.  His quality Holstein Dairy Cattle project was recognized at a number of Project Competitions as the Outstanding Project in Division 1 and 2, and earned him the Star Sectional and Star Regional Farmer award.  Jon is a graduate of Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo where he obtained a degree in Dairy Science.

 
Ken Mitchell
1987

Ken attained his degree through very active participation in the F.F.A., as well as an outstanding turkey project.  Ken was Chapter President as well as Central Region Reporter. He was the Western Region Poultry Proficiency winner, and his S.O.E.P. also won him four Gold Awards in Project Competition.  Ken is a graduate of Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, and currently manages Mitchell Turkey Farm.

 
Chris Van Doren
1987

Chris earned the American Farmer degree because of his Holstein Dairy Project and his many activities in the F.F.A.  He earned many awards with his Holsteins, and numerous times was the Outstanding Project in Project Competition.  Chris graduated from Cal Poly at San Luis Obispo.

 
Dennis Albiani
1988

Dennis received his American Farmer Degree for his participation in many high level F.F.A. activities.  Dennis served as a chapter officer for two years, Sacramento Section President, Central Region President and the California Association F.F.A. Vice President in 1987-88.  His quality project of Registered Shorthorn breeding cattle have earned him many awards at the state level, including Premier Exhibitor at the California State Fair, and Sectional and Regional Star Farmer.  Dennis graduated from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo.

 
Michael Calicura, Jr.
1990

Michael fulfilled his degree requirements through a high level of F.F.A. activities.  He held the office of Chapter President for two years and was also selected to serve on the State F.F.A. Nominating Committee.  His quality projects in swine, beef cattle and work experience earned him gold awards in Project Competition, Sectional Star Agribusinessman and State Proficiency Winner in Agricultural Sales and Service.  Michael was selected as the outstanding member of the Elk Grove F.F.A. Chapter for three consecutive years.

 
Lisa Greber
1990

Lisa attained her degree through active participation in the F.F.A. and an outstanding project of Angus beef cattle, swine and work experience.  Lisa won many gold awards in Project Competition and served as a chapter officer.  Lisa is a graduate of Fresno State College.

 
Daryle Yount
1990

Daryle secured his degree through his outstanding work experience program in Agricultural Sales and Service in which he was selected the Regional Proficiency Winner.  He also had a market swine project and was very active in F.F.A. activities, serving as Chapter Sentinel.  He is currently living and working in Lodi.

 
John Greber
1993

John received his degree through his active participation in the F.F.A.  He was the outstanding F.F.A. member for two years, served as a Chapter officer, and had excellent projects in beef, swine, sheep and work experience.  With these projects he received many golds in Project Competition. 

 
Kris Gudel
1994

Kris fulfilled his degree requirements through active participation in the F.F.A.  He held the office of Chapter Vice President and Sentinel, and won gold awards in Project Competition.  His outstanding project of Registered Shorthorn Cattle won him many awards, and Kris had an excellent paid work experience project in landscaping. 

 
Courtnie Braziel
1994

Courtnie attained her degree through very active participation in the F.F.A. and a lot of hard work behind the scenes.  She had outstanding projects in Suffolk sheep, Pigmy goats and paid work experience, and earned many golds in Project Competition.

 
Tammy MacDonald
1995

Tammy's attitude towards life earned her the American Farmer Degree.  Constantly serving and helping other F.F.A. members, she also had a strong beef and work experience project.  Tammy was an asset to our program and will be successful at any career she chooses. 

 
Whitney Braziel
1995

Whitney had a very strong project that consisted of sheep, goats, beef and work experience.  Whitney had many hundreds of hours of community service in Elk Grove, where we hope she will settle after college. 

 
Ted Van Steyn
1995

Ted fulfilled his degree requirements with a very successful dairy/work experience project.  He works very hard at every project he tackles, from Dairy cattle selection to champion Farm Records Team.  Ted was involved in most things the Chapter had to offer.  He is currently working on the family dairy in Elk Grove. 

 
Steve Samra
1996

Steve earned his degree through his extensive grain production enterprise.  He is currently working for the U.S. D.A. as well as continuing his farming enterprises.

 
Jill Heuvel
1996

Jill won many awards with her registered Hampshire sheep project.  She was a very active F.F.A. member and often found time to help younger members.  She is currently teaching Agriculture at the high school level. 

 
Adria Epton
1996

Adria had a very strong work experience project on a horse ranch.  She was a very a strong F.F.A. member and served as a chapter officer.  Adria was also active in many community service activities.

 
J. R. Hardesty
1997

J.R. earned his degree with an extensive work experience project for Hardesty Trucking and Bar JP Ranch.  He was a State winner in the Agricultural Sales and Service Proficiency Award area.  J.R. is currently working for Bar JP Ranch and beginning his own ranching business.

 
Congetta Maita
1997

Congetta served the Elk Grove Chapter as a very involved young lady.  She was elected Chapter President and served on many committees.  She was a member of the Greenhand, Parliamentary Procedure and Farm Records teams.  Her projects consisted of registered Red Angus cattle, greenhouse plants and sheep. 

 
Richard Vietheer
1997

Richard was very active in the Elk Grove F.F.A., serving as Chapter President.  He was a member of the Livestock, Parliamentary Procedure and Cooperative Marketing teams.  His projects consisted of registered Shorthorn breeding cattle, work experience and home improvement.  He was also a State Proficiency Finalist. 

 
Jennifer Luiz
1998

Jennifer was a strong leader and organizer who was totally involved in F.F.A.  She served as President at the local level, and Treasurer at the regional level.  Jennifer's projects were beef, sheep and swine.  She was on the State Championship Cooperative Marketing Team, as well as competed in Parliamentary Procedure and Job Interview contests. 

 
Talia Maita
1998

Talia fulfilled her requirements for the American Farmer Degree through very active participation in the F.F.A.  She served as the local President, while keeping a strong work experience project at Robinson and Sheldon Feed.  She also had a very nice herd of Red Angus.  Talia is a cattle woman in El Dorado County.

 

Justin Moore
1999
    

Justin's Supervised Agricultural Experience Project included market swine and work experience at Bradshaw Veterinary Clinic.  He was also very active in community service on behalf of the chapter.  He is currently attending Cosumnes River College and working at Bradshaw Veterinary Clinic.

 
Adam Braziel
1999
   

Adam had the strongest work experience program in the history of the chapter, working for Hardesty Hay Haulers.  He also ran his own hay hauling business.  He is currently self employed. 

Pam Heuvel
2000

Pam had a strong Hampshire sheep project, as well as work experience for her Supervised Agricultural Experience Program.  She served as chapter officer for 2 years, and was an exceptional student. 

 
Sheryl Hardesty
2000

Sheryl had a very strong work experience program, working for Hardesty Hay and Cattle Company.  She was very active, and her "can do" attitude will serve her well in what ever she attempts.

 
Beth Waaramaki
2000

Beth's strong work experience program at Sheldon Feed, as well as her activity on very successful judging teams made her a real success.  Elk Grove FFA was lucky to have her in the chapter.

 
Caitlin Cooney
2000

Caitlin had an excellent flock of colored sheep and a strong work experience project.  She was very active in chapter activities from judging teams to community service.

 
Tim Lewis
2000

Tim had a strong work experience program in both outdoor recreation and viticulture (he was a finalist at the National Convention).  Tim also was an Agriculture Exchange Student in Costa Rica.

 
Julia Daehling
2000

Julia's excellent S.A.E.P. consisted of market steers, horses and work experience in a commercial nursery.  She was very active in chapter activities and continues with community service at a high level as an adult.

 
Kevin Luiz
2000

Kevin served as a chapter officer for 2 years, and was recognized as one of the best leaders in chapter history.  His project consisted of market swine and work experience.  He is a graduate of the University of California at Davis.

 
Nick Webb
2000

Nick's project consisted of work experience in agricultural processing, where he is still a huge success.  His S.A.E.P. was recognized at the National Convention with a Gold Award.

 
Amy Clark

2001

Amy had a breeding sheep, market lamb and work experience project.  She was also actively involved in many successful judging teams.

 
Tracy Haas

2001

Tracy filled many leadership positions as Chapter Officer, Regional Officer, and State Officer.  Her projects consisted of breeding sheep, market sheep, and work experience.   She is a graduate of Texas A & M.

 
Leslie Leitch

2001

Leslie served as Chapter Secretary, and had breeding Shropshire sheep, market lamb and work experience projects.  She was also very active in community service activities. 

 
Shawn Stretars

2001

Shawn had very successful rabbit and work experience projects.  In addition, he was very active in community service events.

 
Russell Van Steyn

2001

Russell was a State Proficiency Winner in Dairy Production and Placement.  He was the Chapter Treasurer, and one of the strongest candidates for national award that Elk Grove FFA has ever had.

 
Trevor Weaver

2001

Trevor served three years as chapter officer, including two years as President.  His projects included market swine, market sheep, and work experience.  He was also involved in many successful state judging teams, and won the State Proficiency Winner in Placement in Emerging Technologies in Agriculture.

 
Kallie Donnelly

2002

Kallie was a national finalist in Sales and Service Placement Proficiency.  She had a very strong work experience project at Sheldon Feed & Supply, and was extremely active in FFA activities.  She served as a chapter officer for two years, and was on three state winning judging teams.

 
Ashley Parker

2002

In addition to an excellent work experience project, Ashley raised market sheep, market swine, and a market steer.  She served as a chapter officer, and was on a state winning judging team.

 
Buck Reynon

2002

Buck has a very strong horse and work experience project, and was state runner-up in Horse Proficiency.  He was extremely active in FFA activities, including showing horses and assisting younger members with their projects.

 
Lindsey Webb

2002

 

Lindsey had a very strong work experience project, working at Sheldon Feed & Supply.  She was very active in the FFA, serving as a chapter officer for two years, and exhibiting market lambs for five years.  She was also a member of a state winning judging team for three years.

 
Nick Heuer

2003

Nick showed market swine, and served as Chapter President.  His work experience project was excellent, working for Elk Grove Parks and Recreation as a Landscaper.

Lisa showed market steers, and had a work experience project, working at Bradshaw Veterinary Clinic.  She was extremely active in community service projects.

2004

Natalie showed market lambs, and had an excellent equine work experience project.  In addition, she was a chapter officer and participated on a judging team.

Scott served as a chapter officer, and was very active in the chapter.  He had a grade beef breeding project and market beef project.  He also participated on a state winning judging team.

Leeman had a market and breeding swine project.  He also served as a chapter officer, and participated on many judging teams.

 
Erin Wahlen

2004

Erin had an excellent equine project, and was very successful at her work experience project at Sheldon Feed and Supply.  She served as a chapter officer for two years, and was active in the California State FFA Association.

 
Jessie Bishop

2005

Jessi showed market sheep, and had a wide variety of work experience projects.  She served as a chapter officer, and was a leader in the chapter.

 
  
Grant Connley
2005
 

Grant was a very positive individual.  He raised market steers throughout his FFA career.  He also had a strong work experience at local ranches and feed stores.  He was very active in the FFA chapter.

 
Mark Durand

Mark raised steers and had a very good work experience project in the salmon fishing industry.  He won the State Proficiency Award in Outdoor Recreation.

 
Tiffany Godinez

Tiffany had a market lamb and landscape maintenance work experience project.  She was an active member of the chapter for four years.

Daniel raised market swine and had a work experience project.  He served as Chapter President, and was a tremendous leader.  He also had some breeding beef cattle.

 
Victoria Hein

2005

Victoria had a large breeding sheep project.  She was very active in chapter affairs.

David had a landscape work experience project.

  
Stephen Keema

Stephen had a very strong general ranch work experience project, with special strengths in ag mechanics.  He was very active in the FFA chapter.

 
Patty Maldanado

2005

Patty was a National Finalist in Agriscience Fair.  She had a wide variety of work experience including working in a vet hospital and landscape maintenance.  Patty was also a chapter officer.

 
Latasha Reali

2005

 

Latasha was active in chapter activities.  She had a wide variety of projects, including market swine and landscape maintenance.  She was also a very active volunteer at Project Ride.  Latasha was the State winner for the H.O. Sargeant Award.

Ashley had a market hog and work experience project.  She was very active in community service activities and was an asset to the chapter.

 
William Witzel

William had a strong work experience project, working for Sheldon Feed and Supply.  He also raised market hogs.

Ashley was a State Winner and National Finalist in Equine Science Placement.  She had a very successful horse project, and was very active in FFA activities.

 
Nick Backer

Nick had a strong work experience project, working on his family cattle ranch.  He exhibited market steers at the Sacramento County Fair.

Chris Cahill

Chris exhibited market hogs at the Sacramento County Fair.  He also had a work experience project, working at Mitchell Turkey Farm.  Chris was a very active member of the chapter.

Justin Chalmers

2006

 

Justin had a work experience project, working at Mitchell Turkey Farm.  He is currently studying Poultry Science in college.

Joshua Chandler

2006

 

Josh exhibited market hogs at the Sacramento County Fair.  He was a state proficiency award winner in Turf Grass Management.  Josh also served as a chapter officer, and was a member of the Farm Records Team.

Phillip Dysinger

2006

 

Phillip showed goats and was very active with his work experience project working at a dog groomer.

Jessica Forster

2006

 

Jessica was a State Proficiency Winner in Beef Production.  She raised a herd of registered Angus cattle, and exhibited them each year at the Sacramento County Fair and the California State Fair.  Jessica was also a chapter officer and a member of the Farm Records Team.

Thomas Hooper

2006

 

Thomas exhibited market hogs each year at the Sacramento County Fair.  In addition to his swine project, he had an aquaculture project and work experience project working for Sheldon Feed and Supply.  Thomas was also a chapter officer.

Kyle Kelly

2006

 

Kyle served as an officer for two years, the second as Chapter President.  He had a market hog project and was very active in the chapter.

Brandon Merola

2006

 

Brandon had a breeding and market beef project.  He was active in chapter activities and had a strong work experience project working at Sheldon Feed and Supply.

Ericka Reed

2006

 

Ericka was a Equine Proficiency Award Winner and a very active member of the chapter.

Ashley Rupp

2006

 

Ashley was active in chapter activities and had a strong work experience project.  She also showed market swine.

Brandi Saunders

2006

 

Brandi exhibited market and breeding beef at the Sacramento County Fair.  She was a proficiency winner in Diversified Livestock and Forage production.

Jenna Alexander

2007

 

Jenna maintained a landscape maintenance project on the softball fields at Elk Grove High she now attends Purdue University on scholarship.

Lisa Hamrick

2007

 

Lisa raised, rode and showed horses along with a sheep project while in school.  She is attending college working on a degree in animal science.

Rebecca Hein

2007

 

Rebecca raised sheep for all four years in FFA.  She currently attends Chico State University.  She was awarded several Golden Bears for her quilting.

Kaci Hume

2007

 

Kaci had both market beef and Mule projects during high school.  She was an active mule showman and breeder.  She won many awards in project competition.

Shawn McMahon

2007

 

Shawn maintained a hog project for four years and attends Sacramento State University.

Lindsey Moss

2007

 

Lindsey raised hogs for two years and sheep for two years.  She was a national science fair competitor.  She attended CSU Chico.

   
Megan Riordan

2007

 

Megan showed beef cattle for four years.  She participated in project competition and community service events.

Curt Rohrbach

2007

 

Curt raised hogs for four years.  He now is a welder/ warehouseman.  He was a state finalist in Agricultural Mechanics proficiency.

Josh Thompson

2007

 

Josh raised hogs for four years and worked at Sheldon Feed.  He is a warehouseman and heavy equipment operator.

Eric Tucker

2007

 

Eric works at Sheldon Feed and Supply and raised lambs for four years.  He is attending Cosumnes River College

Mandy Chandler

2008

Mandy raised market sheep and swine, was a sectional officer and a public speaker.  She attends BYU Idaho.

Robert Razzano

2008

 

Robert raised market and breeding beef for four years and attends Cosumnes River College.  He also works in the beef cattle industry.

Alyssa Zayas

2008

 

Alyssa raised hogs for four years and attends Folsom Lake Community College and was a chapter officer.

Samantha Gilbert

2008

 

Samantha was a chapter and sectional officer and raised hogs for four years and worked at Sheldon Feed.  She currently attends Cal Poly.

Stephanie Goeb

2008

 

Stephanie raised hogs for four years and worked at Sheldon Feed and Supply.  She was a sectional officer, state officer candidate and attends Cal Poly SLO.

Liz was a chapter officer and raised market hogs.  She attends San Diego State University where she is very involved in foreign service.


Justine worked for a cutting horse ranch training cutting horses.  She attends Consumnes River College and is an ag major as well as an Ag Ambassador.

Kayla raised market lambs for county and state fair and also worked at the Bradshaw Veterinary Clinic.  Kayla is a  sophomore at CSU Chico where she is an ag major and assists  in putting on the annual field day.

Jessica raised market lambs and horses.  She was also a chapter officer.  She is attending Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo where she is an agriculture major.                                                                     


Jordan raised market steers as her SAE. She was a member of the Ag Issues Forum team and was a State Champion and Reserve National Champion.  She also competed at the national level for agriscience and served as Chapter Vice President.  Jordan now attends Cal Poly San Luis Obispo as an Ag Science Major.
Chelsea raised market hogs as her SAE.  She was an avid member of the Marketing Plan team and competed at the National level for agriscience and received 2nd place in her division. Chelsea also served as the Chapter Vice President.  She now attends Cal Poly San Luis Obispo as an Ag Communications Major.
Lauren raised market hogs as her SAE and was a strong competitor at the Sacramento County Fair.  She competed in National Agriscience and received 2nd place.  Lauren served the chapter as the Chapter Secretary.  She now attends Cal Poly San Luis Obispo as an Ag Science Major.
